Lloydminster RCMP praise individual members at awards ceremony

Sixteen members received honours based on bravery, ethics and their work done outside the detachment as volunteers at a bi-annual awards ceremony.

The Lloydminster RCMP Detachment held the “Recognizing Excellence” awards ceremony on February 26. Constable Micheal Hagel says the ceremony is a chance for members of the detachment to nominate and support their co-workers for the work that they’ve done.

“Policing is a very thankless job. I know the city loves us. I know the members of the public love us but sometimes we forget to love ourselves. We forget that we do good work in this city and don’t always get acknowledged for it.”

Many officers received awards for their work in helping keep the community and its residents safe. Awards were also given out to organizations who help the detachment on a regular basis.

Midwest Victim Services received an award celebrating the partnership between the two groups.  Program Coordinator Jennifer Hauberg says the team works 24 hours a day seven days a week because tragedy can happen at any time.

“The job can take a toll on you so it’s really nice that the RCMP have taken a moment tonight to recognize their contributions. We really enjoy the partnership we have with members and it’s nice to be a part of the RCMP family.”

Midwest Victim Services respond to crisis calls, provide support for victims of crimes, offer guidance and direction to victims during the court process and notify next of kin. Hauberg says they work closely with the RCMP and often times cover the emotional aspects of crimes.

“We definitely appreciate the support we get from the community. We love this stuff and appreciate all the thanks we get and it’s nice to thank each other,” says Const. Hagel.
