Local dentist steps up to help front-line medical workers

A local dentist is looking to do his part to help Lloydminster’s medical professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wayside Dental owner Dr.Nekky Jamal is working with his dental colleagues around the midwest to get masks and other vital protective equipment for the Lloydminster hospital. So far, he says they’ve collected thousands of masks and given large amounts of their practices’ masks to front-line medical workers.

“From our own offices, we’ve donated about 3,000 masks to the hospital. We’ve kinda cleared out about 95% of our supply. Then I started calling all of my dentist buddies that I know across Alberta and Saskatchewan and begging them, telling them about the shortage we have in our hospital. Everyone wanted to help. To me that’s the best part, it’s all about community.”

Since he started the initiative, Jamal has seen dentists from as far east as Saskatoon helping out. He says every little bit helps for front line workers, pharmacists and other medical professionals who are still working.

“I just want to say thank you to Lloydminster, to our community, and to our front line health care workers that are sacrificing themselves and their families to keep us safe. None of us can really put into words what that means.”
