Alberta reports 64 new cases of COVID-19, one more death in Calgary

The number of COVID-19 cases in Alberta has risen to 754 cases with 64 new cases as of March 31.

Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, says there was another death in the Calgary area who was residing in the McKenzie Town Continuing Care Centre. It is the ninth death related to COVID-19 in the province.

Dr. Hinshaw notes a total of 36 residents and five staff members at the centre have tested positive for the virus. She also says 77 health-care workers tested positive during the outbreak with many of them being either travel-related or caught it at an Edmonton bonspiel in March.

Dr. Hinshaw believes 75 cases are a result of community transmission and reminds Albertans to stay in isolation and not to visit family during the upcoming holidays.

The number of cases in the Central zone has increased by five for a total of 51 with two in Vermilion River County. The number of recovered cases rose to 120 across the province and as of March 31, 48,692 tests have been completed.
