Lloydminster RCMP warn public of ongoing phone scam – UPDATED

Lloydminster RCMP are warning residents about an ongoing phone scam.
On Thursday, November 19, and Friday, November 20, the RCMP received over 30 reports from residents about having received calls from the Canada Revenue Agency, wherein the caller identifies himself as Constable Mark Finlin and tells the recipient of the call that there is a warrant out for their arrest. The caller then asks the recipient to call (844) 765-3872, which is believed to be associated with an internet telephone line.
Police would like to warn the public that this is not a legitimate call, nor should anyone be concerned about a warrant for their arrest from the Canada Revenue Agency. The CRA has a warning on their website indicating that this is a scam and they would never ask anyone to provide their date of birth or Social Insurance Number.
“The Lloydminster RCMP are investigating the complaints with respect to the calls and it is expected that we will receive more,” said Corporal Tammy Hollingsworth.  “Should you receive one of these calls, you are asked not to provide any personal information, send any money or be concerned about a warrant for your arrest with respect to receiving this call.”
People who have been targeted should report the call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or www.antifraudcentre.ca. Victims of fraud should also call Lloydminster RCMP at (780) 808-8400.
Update: An unnamed resident now reports that phone calls may come from (844) 368-1635.
