Lakeland Regional Safety Committee to hold annual conference

The Lakeland Regional Safety Committee is holding their annual Safety Conference.

The conference will be held Thursday, November 26, with the theme “Empowering Your Safety Leaders”.

“We chose the theme of ‘Empowering Your Safety Leaders’ because we find that that’s one of the lagging indicators in the industry of safety,” said Jennifer Keach, chairperson of the Lakeland Regional Safety Committee. “It should be one of the first things [when] we think of working safe, but ultimately, when something happens, it’s usually the last part of planning in any kind of job or task. We’re just trying to bring awareness to that, and let everybody know that the Lakeland Regional Safety Committee is here, we do have avenues and networks, and we’re here to provide some of that insight.”

The day-long conference consists of several demonstrations as well as two keynote speakers – author Alan Quilley, and former head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos Kavis Reed. Keach says the committee put a lot of thought into the speakers.

“There was a subcommittee and numerous amounts of different speakers, and we wanted to have a speaker that we hadn’t had in Lloydminster before,” she said. “We wanted to have somebody who we felt would have a lot of impact locally, and Alan Quilley is well know for a wide variety [of reasons], and since we are looking out for seven different industries, we wanted somebody who could have an impact on all of those. Kavis Reed was a popular choice because of his football career, and all of the football fans locally.”

Keach also says Reed will be giving a motivational talk to conference attendees.

The event takes place from 730 a.m – 4 p.m at the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds. Those who wish to register can do so by visiting lloydconstruction.ca.
