One new active case in the County of Vermilion River

One new active case of COVID-19 has been recorded in the County of Vermilion River.

Two new cases have been found in the Central zone including the one in the county bringing the total to 79 cases in the zone. One case in the MD of Wainwright remains active and one person is considered recovered in Lloydminster. There is also one recovery in the County of Vermilion River.

Premier Jason Kenney announced 306 new cases were found after 4,151 tests were done since yesterday. Provincial Public Health Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw says most of the new cases are connected to an outbreak in Brooks and the Cargill meat plant. There are now 3,401 cases throughout Alberta with 1,310 of them listed as recovered.

The premier also announced five more deaths in the province. Four of them were in the North zone and 66 Albertans have died in relation to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Province-wide, 70 people are in hospital and 18 are being treated in the intensive care unit. Kenney says the rate of hospitilization is still below modelling projections.

Over 113,000 tests have been done in the province since March 4 with 9,961 of them completed in the Central zone.

The province is launching a tool with Alberta Cares Connector which will allow organizations to put a call out for volunteer opportunities. Premier Jason Kenney made a call to action for people, who are not at high-risk, to volunteer in their communities during the pandemic.
