Six Lloydminster players selected in the 2020 WHL draft

Six Lloydminster hockey players and two from the surrounding area are moving forward with their hockey careers.

Five players from the Lloydminster Bobcats Bantam AAA team and one from the Midget AAA team were selected in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft on Wednesday.

In the first round of the online draft, Mazden Leslie (10th overall) is headed to Vancouver to play with the Giants while Ryker Singer (22nd overall) was chosen by the Prince George Cougars. 

In the second round, Goalie Scott Ratzlaff (43 overall) was picked up by the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The Winnipeg Ice chose Ashton Cumby (80 overall) in the fourth round while the Brandon Wheat Kings drafted Eastyn Mannix (79 overall) from Wainwright from the Northern Alberta X-treme Bantam Prep Hockey Academy. Ryan Taylor (75 overall) who played for the Battlefords Barons Bantam AA team was drafted by the Edmonton Oil Kings in the same round.

The Brandon Wheat Kings also chose Lloydminster Bobcat Oakley Mcilwain (142 overall) in the seventh round. In the ninth round, the Victoria Royals selected Bonnyville’s Brent Hochowski (188 overall).
