Battlefords RCMP charge four in 2019 murder investigation

Battlefords RCMP have made some arrests in connection with the 2019 murder of Ryan John Gatzke.

25-year-old Jacob Joseph Ballantyne, 22-year-old Isaac Melko, and an 18-year-old whose name cannot be published due to their age at the time of the crime are facing alleged second-degree murder, firearm and breaking and entering charges.

23-year-old Charles Michael Lewis McLean was also charged with alleged manslaughter, one firearms count and a charge of breaking and entering.

Gatzke died in hospital on October 18th of last year, after being found with serious injuries at a home on the 100 block of 28th street. The investigation was completed with the help of the RCMP Major Crimes Unit North and several specialized RCMP units.

McLean, Ballantyne, and Melko are all in custody and have appeared in court on May 19th. A court date has yet to be set for the 18-year-old.
