WestJet opens more flights beginning in July

Westjet has released their new schedule for domestic flights which includes flights from Lloydminster.

From July 5 and August 4, there will be two flights a week, Monday and Friday, between Lloydminster Airport and Calgary International Airport. The company is starting to run more domestic flights after initially limiting services on May 5 due to COVID-19.

The schedule shows flights to 45 destinations which includes 39 in Canada, five in the U.S and one in Mexico.

“Today’s schedule reflects our commitment to orderly and safe travel while providing steps to allow Canadians to get out, explore, and take part in critical economic activities like staying in hotels, eating out, visiting tourist attractions or simply just travelling to see friends and family,” WestJet Chief Commercial Officer Arved von zur Muehlen says.

The company will also be offering international flights from Calgary to Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Atlanta. WestJet suspended their international and trans-border services on March 22.

The federal government has also mandated all air passengers will have to undergo a mandatory temperature check before boarding a flight. The check is part of a three phased approach which will start with those travelling to Canada, then those travelling from Canada and then those travelling within the country.

Canada’s Minister of Transport Marc Garneau says any passenger with a fever will not be allowed to board the flight. He expects the screening process to be in place at the country’s four largest airports, including Calgary, by the end of July.
