Overcoming grief focal point of City’s COVID-19 webinar

The City of Lloydminster’s Family and Community Support Services is bringing in a guest speaker to help people with some hard to talk about feelings.

The FCSS and Economic Task Force are bringing in Bill Harder for Overcoming Loss, a webinar designed to help people understand the feelings surrounding losses, ranging from a loved one passing away, to the loss of a relationship, to job or business loss.

The program is also a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has compounded extra onto these feelings for many people.

Social Programs Manager Patrick Lancaster says residents will take away coping skills, and know they are alone in the grieving process.

“We’re hoping that residents that attend will be more resilient, and have healthy mechanisms to help them deal with grief, and we hope everyone who attends will learn something.”

Harder works in palliative and grief care with the Hospice Society of Camrose and District, and before that, he put 15 years in pastoral care under his belt.

Lancaster explains they chose Harder to speak in town because his last program about compassion fatigue received positive feedback.

“People really enjoy Bill. He has a lot of experience talking on difficult subjects and uncomfortable subject matter, and he presents it in a very thoughtful and compassionate way.”

The session will be available online live on July 3rd from 12 to 1 PM, and from there on the City’s YouTube channel for another week afterwards. People can register online on the event webpage.
