Lloydminster Community Youth Centre preparing for phased re-open

Much like the rest of Saskatchewan, the Lloydminster Community Youth Centre is gradually welcoming their patrons back.

On July 2nd, the Youth Centre will begin offering in-person programming again. This is through a reduced but regular programming model. This means shortened hours on drop-in times, now limited to Thursday from 4-8 PM, Friday 4-9 PM and Saturday 6-9 PM. There will also be a limit of 15 kids per session at the Youth Centre, so physical distancing can be maintained.

Interval Home CEO Angela Rooks-Trotzuk says despite the changes, they’re excited to welcome kids back to the Centre.

“[The Youth Centre is] getting ready for wiener roasts, and bonfire night, and slip and slide nights. They’re working to rig up a late-night gaming projection on the side of the building. All kinds of things that they’re planning to do and staff are really excited to get youth back into the facility and interact with them face to face.”

In addition to drop-in, movie nights and resuming volunteer programs for the kids, the Youth Centre is also planning “Excursion Day” trips on Mondays and Tuesdays. This could mean potential trips to Sandy Beach, Gopher Hill or Elk Island, among others. These days will also have limited capacity, and be available to kids who sign up.

Rooks-Trotzuk adds that the kids who use the Youth Centre are really excited to jump back into their programs again.

“Youth can’t wait to come back into the centre, and just see each other, and socialize, and receive kind of that support and connection with the staff and the people on site here. Everybody’s really excited, and I think it’s integral for youth to be able to have that continued stability within the Youth Centre.

The Youth Centre will continue to provide further updates on its social media channels.
