Saskatchewan opens free fishing weekend 2020

Anglers across Saskatchewan, including those from Lloydminster, can look forward to a weekend of free fishing across the province.

The annual event, which highlights sportfishing opportunities across the province, is slated for this weekend, July 11th and 12th. Over the weekend, residents and visitors can sport fish without a licence in any public waterway in the province. The province is advising people to be aware of some rules before hitting the lake, however.

The free, non-licensed fishing applies to public waterways, but not national parks. Fishers must also have a license if they plan to fish in national parks or take the fish with them out of province after catching it. There are also some rules for 2020’s Free Fishing Weekend surrounding COVID-19, as anglers will still need to follow public health orders and watch for travel restrictions that may still exist at their lake of choice.

All other fishing regulations remain in effect as well, which can be found in the 2020 Saskatchewan Anglers Guide.
