Lloydminster and District SPCA celebrates Jail ‘n’ Bail

The Lloydminster and District SPCA’s Jail ‘n’ Bail has had another successful year.

The fundraiser sees local volunteers of various professions, caged into the animals’ kennels alongside the humane society’s adoptable dogs and cats, with the goal of reaching a specific fundraising dollar amount to post their bail.

Dr. Becky Newman, a veterinarian at the Lloydminster Animal Hospital and Southside Vet Clinic, spent the day with two of the organization’s cats. She says she’s happy to help.

“We do a lot of work with the SPCA on a daily basis, so we get to see first-hand all of the patients that come from the SPCA to the vet clinic, and see what the money is used for,” Newman said. “The SPCA does such great work, and takes such good care of all these animals.”

Jon Punshon, operations manager at the SPCA, says despite the downturn in the economy, he’s pleased with peoples’ contributions.

“We knew things were going to be down a bit,” Punshon said. “We knew things are tight, especially around Christmas time, and there are a lot of organizations that are in need of support and there’s only so much that can go around this year. We’re just thankful that people are still thinking about the SPCA. Whatever we can get we are happy with.”

To make a donation or visit the animals, you can visit the SPCA at 6202 62 Street between 11 and 5, or call the office at 780-875-2809.
