City setting timelines for indoor pool and sports centre reopenings

The City of Lloydminster is setting timelines on reopening for some of their indoor pool and sports facilities.

One fieldhouse at the Servus Sports Centre is scheduled to open on July 27, followed by the Holmes/Leisure Arena on August 4 and child minding services on August 10. A second fieldhouse may be reopened on August 10 as well, depending on the demand.

The Bioclean Aquatic Centre is aiming for an August 4th reopening with modified services and some areas like the sauna remaining closed. Provincial health guidelines will be in place which include protocols such as making sure every child is accompanied by an adult.

Mayor Gerald Aalbers says the weeks leading up to the reopening will be used to train staff on the new guidelines.

“You’ve got to remember that our staff have not been serving the public for four months. It will be a different experience and we want to ensure that people have talked about it and from the staff’s perspective, making sure they have the right tools and the right understanding.”

The city may put a scheduling system similar to the one in place at the fitness centre inside the Servus Sports Centre in place. More details on how the facilities will operate will be released closer to the opening dates.

Aalbers was also ensured by city staff that all the repairs and upgrades at the aquatic centre have been completed. They say there should be no interruptions in services until the next regularly scheduled maintenance in 2021 except if the province puts restrictions back in place.

The Saskatchewan Government announced indoor pools, rinks and sports complexes would be able to reopen on July 6 in the latest phase of reopening.
