The Scoop rolls out sweet treats for sweet cause

The Scoop is hoping to keep Lloydminster cool over the summer while supporting the Lloydminster Rescue Squad.

The ice cream shop has recently announced that all proceeds from their “Superhero” ice cream flavour are going towards fundraising efforts for the Lloydminster Rescue Squad. The rescue squad, in turn, will use this for several equipment upgrades.

Scoop owner Maria Sarcauga says they decided to help the Lloydminster Rescue Squad as part of their ongoing yearly community fundraisers.

“They have just been so pivotal [for] a lot of families, and the work they do for the community whether that’s with the rescues that they do, or just kind of being supportive of different organizations in the community.”

The rescue squad is trying to raise $20,000 total to upgrade their diving gear, which will provide their water rescue team with better SONAR for underwater vision, new suits for safety and equipment for their boat.

In an effort to keep funds coming in for the Rescue Squad through the summer, Sarcauga explains that the Scoop will be putting out a new flavour every week, and the hardest part will be picking a new flavour combo out of the 40 they have.

“This particular ice cream flavour is actually the first of the seven flavours we’re going to have on a weekly rotation for the Lloydminster Rescue Squad feature flavour. Superhero [is] the first flavour we picked because we wanted to contribute to our local superheroes, which we think is the Lloydminster Rescue Squad.”

The Scoop will also have a donation jar for the Squad at their shop if someone wants an ice cream but isn’t feeling the flavour of the week, and Sarcauga also encourages people check out the Lloydminster Rescue Squad’s GoFundMe page.
