Wainwright bridge replacement project receives provincial funding

The Alberta Government is committing infrastructure funding to a bridge replacement project in the MD of Wainwright.

Garth Rowswell, MLA for Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright, says the MD has been granted $291,750 for the $389,000 project which will replace a culvert in the municipality. The funding comes from the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) which allocates money to upgrading bridges, roads and airports in rural communities.

“We’ve had the pandemic and the low price of oil, we’ve just been hit really hard. So, it’s a way for government to initiate and get some jobs to hopefully carry people through until stuff recovers and we start to get back to normal.”

Rowswell says he plans to visit the site to take a look at the project.

Funding was provided to projects that we’re shovel-ready and are cost-shared with the province covering up to 75 per cent. About $50 million was added to STIP to support 69 new projects and according to the province, create 475 new jobs.
