Lloydminster’s Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Auxiliary hosts successful event

Lloydminster’s Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Auxiliary is celebrating in the wake of their first Je Suis Hijabi campaign.

The campaign works to try to remove misconceptions that they say people associate with their religious head covering. Thursday, December 17, the group set up a table in the foyer of Lakeland College’s Lloydminster Campus, where women could try on hijabs and learn more about Muslim culture.

“For the past events that we have had here locally we have got a lot of support,” says Mubarika Ahmed, a spokesperson for the Amadiyya Muslim Women’s Auxiliary of Lloydminster.

“There are many people that came to Meet A Muslim Family and we made some good friends through that campaign. There are also open houses that have been happening recently. Just two weeks ago, there was one in Wainwright that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Organization organized. We are having great support in Lloydminster.”

The group hopes to host the event again in the New Year, at a different venue in the city.
