M.D. of Wainwright sees spike in COVID-19 cases

Almost 40 new cases have been reported in the M.D. of Wainwright according to Alberta Health data.

As of August 6th, there are 45 active cases, 10 recoveries and one death in the municipality. The M.D. has been put on a watch list by the Province of Alberta.

During the watch, the province will be monitoring the risk as well as discussing with local government leaders of possibly implementing additional health measures.

An area is put on the list if there are at least 10 active cases and more than the rate of 50 active cases per 100,000 population.

The County of Vermilion remains unchanged from the past few days. There are three active cases and seven recoveries in the area. The County of Minburn and the County of Two Hills have no active cases.

Across Alberta, there were 134 new cases recorded out of 8,553 tests completed. There are 224 active cases in the Central zone with 12 people being treated in hospital and two in intensive care. There are 298 cases considered to be recovered in the zone.
