Vermilion RCMP have arrested a wanted suspect after a chase Wednesday night.
Around 8:30 PM on August 12th, police responded to reports on a suspicious vehicle, and when they arrived found a man appearing to be sleeping in the driver’s seat, who was recognized as someone who was wanted on several outstanding warrants.
While trying to arrest the man, he awoke and drove off, momentarily catching a police officer in the driver’s door. Various RCMP detachments helped with the pursuit, and the car eventually stopped after crashing into a wetland marsh. The suspect fled on foot, and was later arrested by officers and police dogs.
The officer did not have any serious injuries and the suspect was treated and released from a local hospital after suffering a dog bite wound.
22 year old Murray Mackenzie Young of Vermilion has been charged with six offences, including assault on an officer with a weapon, resisting arrest and theft, among others. At the time of his arrest, he was also facing twenty-three alleged property and firearms charges.
Young remains in police custody awaiting an August 17th court appearance in Vermilion Provincial Court.
