Both Lloydminster School Divisions will be receiving federal education funding for COVID-19 related expenses.
The Government of Alberta is distributing $825,650 to the Lloydminster Public School Division and $597,800 to the Lloydminster Catholic School Division. The Buffalo Trail School Division is set to receive $1,392,300.
The province is set to receive a total of $262.8 million, which will be distributed in two phases – once in September and again later in the school year.
Minister of Education Adriana LaGrange says she recognizes the importance of the additional funding to schools across the province and has designated a broad set of criteria for how it is to be used.
“School authorities said that they wanted as much flexibility as possible to use this funding in ways that are most important for their schools and communities.”
Funding is based on a per-student model and must be used to support additional COVID-19 related costs in staffing, adapting learning spaces, personal protective equipment, cleaning and safety considerations for schools and buses or online learning and teacher training.
