Wainwright RCMP gathering public priorities from mail-in feedback

The Wainwright RCMP is getting the public’s insight for what they’d like to see police prioritize in the near future.

Normally the RCMP would hold in-person town halls for residents of Wainwright, Edgerton, Irma and Chauvin, but this year have moved to a method that will allow them to work around COVID-19 restrictions. Residents are being encouraged, starting September 10th, to either mail in or email their concerns, comments and questions to the Wainwright RCMP.

Wainwright RCMP Sergeant Wes Bensmiller says these sessions allow them to understand what residents are concerned about, and based on the feedback develop new plans.

“We kind of change our priorities for the year, basically. So if we see there’s a number of these concerns, we just adjust our priorities trying to combat these issues.”

Residents responses can be mailed into the Wainwright detachment at 826 3 Avenue or emailed. These comments and questions are then complied and responded to publicly by Bensmiller, which is planned for later in October this year. This will be on the communities’ webpages and all through posts on their social media.

He adds that some common concerns are things like property crime and drugs, but because this is a new program he can’t say how many responses they’ll get.

“This is something that we’ve never done before, so it’s hard to say what kind of feedback we’re going to get, but like I said, we’re open to any and all.”

This feedback session is set to run until September 24th, 2020.
