Spiro’s receives Saskatchewan ABEX Award

Spiro’s Family Restaurant is being recognized for their work in Lloydminster and was named a 2020 ABEX Award winner.

“We’ve been here for 50 years and we’re a part of this city. We’re excited but also humbled by this kind gesture from the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce,” says owner Spiro Kokonas.

The restaurant is receiving the Community Involvement Award which goes to a business that demonstrates exceptional performance in its support of the arts and culture, amateur sports, education, healthcare or voluntary groups.

Spiro’s was nominated based on its strong social media presence and desire to support local businesses during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The restaurant showcased local businesses and taught residents how to shop safely through Facebook videos.

“We never got involved with the community to get an award. We get involved with the community because we love it and we’re a part of the community.”

This year’s ABEX Awards will be held virtually on November 14th and will be honouring businesses and individuals online. Award winners will also be featured on Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce’s social media pages.

The ABEX Awards are Saskatchewan’s longest-running business awards and has been running since 1984.
