North Battleford school receiving over $11 million in major renovation funding

North Battleford’s John Paul II Collegiate will be getting over $11.5 million for some major renovations to the school.

The Saskatchewan government funding was announced at a conference with Education Minister Gordon Wyant, Battlefords MLA Herb Cox and representatives from the Light of Christ Catholic School Division in attendance.

In a statement, Light of Christ Catholic Schools Board Chair Glen Gantefoer says the upgrades will allow for the school to have enhanced safety and accessibility, as well as have “cutting edge learning opportunities that ensure students have the necessary skills for future success.”

Among the updates are additions to the servery and industrial arts areas, modernizing aging infrastructure, and upgrades to their washrooms, common areas and other existing spaces. John Paul II Collegiate had it’s last major renovation in 2004, and was built in 1912.

Wyant adds that in addition to preserving the school infrastructure, it will serve as an economic boost post-pandemic. The investment comes as part of a continuing  $7.5 billion two-year capital plan for economic recovery post COVID-19.
