Nelson Lumber GM Sheldon Weinrauch seeking spot on city council

Sheldon Weinrauch is putting his name forward in the running for Lloydminster city council.

“I want to be at the forefront of promoting our city as the place to live for young families and a place to do business. I think it’s important to promote that to our citizens as well as everybody else.”

Weinrauch lived in the community for the past 40 years after moving to Lloydminster as a teenager. He is a former volunteer firefighter and currently works as the general manager of Nelson Lumber’s retail division, but has been in various roles with the company.

He says he’s experience working in his current role will help him reach his goal of fiscal responsibility as a part of city council.

“We always have to be fiscally responsible to be a player in this town and I think that’s important for the city as a whole as well. I’d like to bring that part of my nature to the table. I’m very in tune with how you have to cut costs in order to be viable and our city is no different.”

Weinrach hopes to see the city flourish as a place for families and says he will be committed to promoting Lloydminster as such.

“It’s important for families to want to come here. When business does come here, people come with it a lot of times and we want to make sure we are that town that people go ‘Yeah, Lloydminster is a great place, they have everything and we have all the amenities we need’ and people are excited to come here.”

“I have a vested interest in Lloydminster and I’m looking forward to doing my part again as anything I can do to be a part of this community and help Lloydminster in any way I can.”

He encourages residents to get in touch through social media ahead of the election.

Weinrauch is running against incumbent Aaron Buckingham, Darrell Dunn, Rhiannon Greening, Cheryl Ross, Lorelee Marin and Dean Segberg for a spot on city council. Nominations close on October 7th and the municipal election is scheduled for November 9th.
