Communication with residents key for Glenn Fagnan re-election

Glenn Fagnan says it’s been a quick four years, but more still needs to be done.

“Those four years were a great learning experience and I think with myself coming back I can utilize that knowledge that I already have just a little bit further.”

Fagnan has put his name forward for re-election for city council. He says there are still initiatives and policies he would like to see through to the end including one that was sidetracked by the pandemic.

Lloydminster RCMP held a town hall in January and it was there that Fagnan discussed a crime prevention program with residents.

“It’s a community-based program and after that meeting I had half a dozen people interested in getting going. That was just before COVID and I’d like to see that initiative. There’s many communities that have within Canada and I think it’s good to have in these times.”

Fagnan hopes to continue building on fiscal policy changes implemented during his time on council. He says there will be some strong fiscal issues coming up and those changes will help in pandemic recovery and economic development in the near future. He says the city should be looking inwards to help local businesses already in the community diversify and grow.

“Obviously, we have to keep ourselves aware of we might attract, but I truly believe what we should be looking at is working with current businesses we have in the community and trying to build on those. I met with a company last week that’s starting a manufacturing facility and they’re a long time business here in the city.”

Fagnan says his experience as Director of Border City Connects will help with bringing in a made in Lloydminster transit system to the city, which he says is a priority. He says city council is an extension of his work with the organization and his volunteering in the community.

Communication with residents has been key for Fagnan during his time on council. He intends to continue voicing the concerns of residents and non-profits in the community on a variety of municipal issues.

“As a past president of the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce, I have a great depth of people I can talk to and a great variety. That’s my thing, when I’m voting on something and it might not be in favour of everybody else, it’s what I’m doing because it’s what I’ve heard from the people.”

Lloydminster residents can reach out to Fagnan through social media and set-up a Zoom meeting, coffee chat or small meeting ahead of the election.

Fagnan is running against 17 other candidates this election with six councillor seats available. Residents will be able to hear from potential councillors at the virtual all-candidates meeting on October 19th. The election is scheduled for November 9th.
