Lloydminster RCMP opens virtual town hall

Lloydminster residents are now able to share their thoughts on policing in the city and help guide the Lloydminster RCMP detachment in the future.

The detachment and the city have launched a virtual town hall discussion board on the Your Voice Lloyd website called Let’s Talk Policing. Inspector Lee Brachmann says there are four key areas highlighted in the campaign: community issues, strategy, staffing and collaboration.

“There will be information by way of a video and residents can provide their thoughts and opinions in a few different areas and have some interaction with us that way, by leaving us some comments about their observations, concerns or thoughts and we’ll reply to those in collaboration with the city as the campaign goes on.”

The campaign acts as a replacement for the town hall engagement session organized by the city earlier this year. Brachmann says there are some benefits to the new format.

“Doing it virtually has the added bonus of having people sign on when they want to and leave comments and be engaged that way as opposed to having to go to a physical location. Sometimes that may not work for them or maybe they don’t feel comfortable attending an in-person event.”

Brachmann says feedback provided by the public will help inform the detachments next steps in building their goals and priorities for the next year as well as help inform them on future decisions such as resource deployment.

“I encourage the people of Lloydminster to take advantage of this opportunity that we have to communicate together in an ongoing dialogue. We’re proud to be the police service in Lloydminster and serve the residents of this community and we’re always happy to receive feedback.”

Brachmann says they will also engage with residents and respond to some of the comments in the discussions. Let’s Talk Policing closes on November 13th and Brachmann says another may be put out in the new year.
