Vermilion Legion announces Remembrance Day plans

The Vermilion Legion has announced some plans for upcoming Remembrance Day ceremonies.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic impacting all aspects of life right now, changes are coming for the Vermilion Royal Canadian Legion #11’s plans for commemoration programming.

Any person wanting to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Day have to wait until November 10th at the earliest, and no later than 10 AM on November 11th. Due to physical distancing guidelines, people will not be able to lay wreaths during the ceremony. Also during the ceremony, Wreaths from the Federal Government, Provincial Government, Town of Vermilion and Vermilion Royal Canadian Legion #11 will be the only ones laid.

People can assemble at the Cenotaph at 10:45 AM November 11th, with the ceremony set to start at 10:55 AM. There will be a short program there, and people are reminded to follow physical distancing during it. The Legion will not be able to host their annual lunch, however.

Purchasing poppies in support of the Legion began on October 26th at a few businesses around the town, as well as at the Legion. Purchases of wreaths also began on the same day, and can be ordered by calling 780-853-5867. Donations to the Poppy Fund can also be made online or in-person at the Legion, which will then be redistributed into several causes in the community.
