Unofficial results: David Gillan elected new mayor of North Battleford

The first results of local municipal elections have trickled in, with information projecting that David Gillian will be the new mayor of North Battleford.

Gillan beat out incumbent Mayor Ryan Bater, with early results showing that Gillan brought in 1198 votes to Bater’s 988. The three other competitors, Lois Laing, brought in 74 votes, James Sieben 50 and Misa Nikolic got 40 votes.

Before being elected, David Gillian was the Town of Battleford  Finance Director and Deputy CAO and prior to that, Finance Director of the City of North Battleford from 2014 to 2017.

He said in his candidate bio that “the biggest issue facing North Battleford is crime, including the national perception that it is a crime town.”

He says some of his plans to fix this long term and short terms is youth access to free activities such as sports and arts as well as attracting good-paying jobs, are also his priorities.

In other unofficial results, Kelli Hawtin, Kent Lindgren, Greg Lightfoot, Len Taylor, Ross MacAngus and Thomas (Bill) Ironstand will make up the new North Battleford City Council.

Official results will be declared by North Battleford City Clerk and Returning Officer, Debbie Wohlberg, at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 12th, 2020. A voter turnout rate is not yet available.
