Lloydminster Parade of Lights a go for 2020

In a year that has seen many events cancelled, the show will go on for the 2020 Lloydminster Parade of Lights.

The committee for the Parade of Lights has announced that the event will go ahead as scheduled on December 17th, but will look different due to COVID-19 guidelines. Instead of taking a route from the Lloydminster Exhibition, around downtown and back up to the Exh, people will be able to drive through the Exh grounds and take in the floats.

Lloydminster Parade of Lights Founder Ryan LeBlanc says they’re most hopeful to bring excitement and joy to the Lloydminster community with this year’s Parade of Lights.

“With all the events around our community being cancelled, just one after another cancelled, cancelled, it’s just something that we felt was important, especially around Christmas, to bring a little bit more cheer to people this Christmas season. So we’re excited and hopeful we’ll be able to continue forward with this.”

While the event is largely still in the planning stages, LeBlanc notes that they’ll be looking to put the fundraising aspects of the event on hold this year. He explains that this Parade of Lights is more to just get people out and about, and feeling like a part of the community again.

“It’s going to be more for the community, to just have something to come out and enjoy. Everyone’s in troubled times, and we just want to bring a free event where the kids can jump in the vehicle with their family, drive through this and enjoy the night.”

As more details come out, LeBlanc says people should keep an eye on the Parade of Lights Facebook page for more details.
