Winter weights season begins on several Saskatchewan secondary highways

After a delay due to warmer November weather, the Saskatchewan Highways Ministry has begun winter weights season on many secondary highways across the province.

The ministry has determined that several secondary roads are now frozen enough to handle the extra weight, typically seeing truckers carry 15 to 20 per cent more than their regular payload on these roads, making fewer trips and inviting cost savings for them.

When it comes to municipal roads, RMs across the province will set their own limits. To keep up with that, commercial truckers and shippers are encouraged to make use of trucking weights page on the Government of Saskatchewan website.

This took effect on November 27th at 12:01 AM and will usually stay in place until about mid-March, depending on if warmer weather softens the roads back out.

Commercial truckers and shippers are urged to check the status of highways online, and also follow @SkGovHwyHotline, look for #skweights or call the Hotline at 511 for more details when needed.
