Unemployment rates drop locally, rise provincially

Unemployment rates dropped regionally on both sides of Lloydminster during November while provincial unemployment rates rose.

In the Camrose Drumheller region, the rate was 11.4 per cent, the highest in the province. According to Statistics Canada, it dropped by over a percentage point when compared to the previous month which was 12.6.

Unemployment in Alberta continues to rise from 10.7 in October to 11.1 in November.

The jobless rate in the Prince Albert and Northern region dropped to 5.5 per cent, a decrease from 7.2 the previous month. Unemployment in the region has been on a steady decline since July where it sat at 9.9 per cent.

In Saskatchewan, the rate rose to 6.9, up from 6.4 in October.

The labour force survey reflects conditions during the week of November 8 to 14 before new public health restrictions were put in place.

Overall unemployment in Canada fell to 8.5 per cent in November as more full-time positions were filled across the country.
