City opens outdoor rinks for winter season

The City has opened up most outdoor and indoor ice rinks for another winter season.

Nine outdoor rinks have been opened up, including the ones at Queen Elizabeth School, Kin-Kinette Park, Husky Oval at the Servus Sports Centre,  Bishop Lloyd Middle School, Winston Churchill Elementary School, Jack Kemp Community School,  E.S. Laird Middle School and Robertson Park.

The outdoor ice surface at Bud Miller Park will not open right away though, as the City says the ice isn’t solid enough yet. Signs will be put up when it’s okay to skate there.

Lights will be on at the Husky Oval will be on until 9 p.m. each night. Lights at Kin-Kinette Park, Jack Kemp Community School, Robertson Park and E.S. Laird Middle School will be on until 10 p.m. every night.

The City notes that the Husky Oval will be closed to the public 4:30 to 8:30 PM on Mondays and Thursdays, as that’s time for the Lloydminster Border Blades Speed Skating Club to practice.

Indoor rinks are also open, with snow clearing will be completed regularly. The PWM Lawyers Park Centre is closed, however, due to COVID-19 rules.

While these outdoor rinks will be open for the entire season, skaters are reminded to follow COVID-19 guidelines, including limiting outdoor gatherings to 30 people. Helmets are also strongly recommended.
