Rogers expanding 5G capability to Wainwright

Wainwright will be joining Lloydminster and 43 other communities across Alberta as locations getting 5G capability on the Rogers network.

The latest expansion of the network is being given out to nine new towns, with Wainwright being among them. The telecommunication company says that by installing this infrastructure, which is expected to be in 160 areas across Canada total by the end of this week, it will improve internet speeds for both consumers and businesses. The company says the network will feature lower latency and more efficient use of spectrum to get people online quicker.

“Alberta’s rural communities need and deserve to have access to first-class internet connectivity. I’m delighted to see that Wainwright and Lloydminster now have access to Rogers 5G,” said MLA Garth Rowswell, Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright. “Rogers 5G network expansion will help transform our province’s economy and could not be more timely given the increased need for online homeschooling, shopping, conferencing and working from home.

The new network also will have city use applications, Rogers says. According to their information, by having the 5G possibilities, towns and cities could support a large increase in the number of connected devices that require near-instantaneous access to internet or a network, such as smart city applications like collision prevention.

Rogers also notes that wireless industry investments in 5G networks are expected to contribute an estimated $40 billion annually to the country’s economy and 250,000 permanent new jobs by 2026, according to their data.

Devon, Didsbury, Olds, Edson, Redcliff, Rocky Mountain House, Slave Lake and Stettler were also announced as part of the next wave of 5G sites in Alberta.
