FCSS Lloydminster releases series on mental health, longevity for seniors

Family and Community Support Services Lloydminster has re-released a series supporting longevity and mental health for seniors.

The five-part web series, hosted by Gary Anaka, focuses on providing mental health strategies for seniors and their caregivers, especially as they live through challenging times. It hopes to help them boost mental health and connect memory health and happiness.

Manager of Social Programs and Services Patrick Lancaster says they chose to bring back the series because of popular demand.

“We wanted to bring Gary Anaka’s content back to Lloydminster because we had a good response to his last session. A lot of seniors commented that they enjoyed it and wanted the opportunity for those who missed it to take it in. As well, it serves as a refresher. If you’ve seen it before, it’s a great reminder of some strategies for good mental health.”

The series will be released on the City of Lloydminster Website starting on January 22nd. From there, a new episode will come out every Friday until February 19th. No registration is required, and there is no cost as the program is funded through the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

Lancaster notes that by learning the tips, it can foster ongoing health habits and techniques.

“Those who haven’t attended one of Gary’s presentations before can expect a high-energy presentation with lots of different strategies on how to take care of your brain, which translates into good physical and mental health. Gary will share tricks on how to stay active and be involved in the community and a better understanding of how the brain works.”

The series will be available online until March 21st, 2021.
