SHA issues advisory about increase of COVID variants in Lloydminster

The Saskatchewan Health Authority is advising Lloydminster residents about an increase in COVID-19 variants around the city.

Health officials are seeing a rising trend in COVID-19 variants around, which they say are highly contagious, can transmit quickly and can result in more severe disease.

As such, these should be considered more dangerous, the SHA notes, and could result in more illness, hospitalizations or fatal outcomes as many of the people falling ill from these are younger, more than previously seen during the pandemic.

As such, the SHA is advising people continue to make sure they’re on top of following health guidelines. This means extra handwashing, physical distancing and staying home if sick, calling for a COVID test if they’re feeling sick.

Also, people are advised caution for travel and gathering. The SHA encourages people to avoid gatherings, work from home whenever possible and keep from non-necessary travel.

For testing, residents in the City of Lloydminster can dial 1-877-800-0002 (instead of 811) to access Healthline 811, so that anyone on both sides of the border can be directed to SHA.
