Streetscapes announces new initiatives

Streetscapes has recently held a meeting and 3 new initiatives for the organization were discussed.

One of the initiatives is to create more marketing events for local businesses, which could include anything from sidewalk sales, to decorating storefronts, to downtown walking tours, as have been done in the past.

“The goal is actually 8 new marketing events annually, but we’re going to start off small: 2 for this first year,” explains Vince Angelo, the Vice-Chair for Streetscapes.

Another new initiative aims to make it easier for entrepreneurs looking to start businesses in downtown Lloydminster, to find real estate for doing so. The group wants to establish a user-friendly database of available rental properties in the downtown core in the hopes of fast-tracking at least part of the process.

As well, something that Streescapes has been working on recently is a parking map for downtown. It shows all the available inventory from City Hall up to the Parkade on 51st Street. There are more than 700 spots available with different time allotments, from 2-hour, to 15-minute loading zones, to unrestricted. Angelo says parking downtown is actually quite plentiful, it just may not me directly in front of your destination.

“You know, if you go to the mall on a busy day, and have to park at the very far end, you’re going to end up walking a block to get to the mall. So it’s kind of akin to the same situation,” says Angelo.
