Saskatchewan pledges second COVID-19 vaccines open to everyone by June 24th

The Saskatchewan Government is pledging that everyone over 12 will be able to access the second COVID-19 vaccine by June 24th.

The province says providing the second of the two dose cycle can happen because of an increased pace of vaccines, especially Moderna, being delivered in the coming weeks.

Baring any unforeseen circumstances, they plan to update to new age groups every Monday and Thursday of each week until all remaining populations are eligible.

Even though the doses will be open, people will still have to make sure they have waited the minimum amount of time between doses. For Pfizer vaccines, this is 21 days, and for Moderna, it’s 28 days.

People can wait up to four months for vaccines, but they’re recommended to get it as soon as possible if they can.

A limited number of first doses of AstraZeneca have been administered since May 5 to those individuals who cannot have mRNA vaccines. If some received AstraZeneca as recommended by their health care provider after May 5th, arrangements will be made to administer the second dose based on current, recommended intervals.

Currently, the first doses are open to everyone over 12. Second doses of the vaccine will be open to those over 50 on Monday, along with anyone vaccinated before April 15th.
