RM of Wilton reminds you to ease the speed in construction zones.

Earlier this month several drivers in the RM of Wilton were cautioned about their driving in construction zones.

The Municipality conducted a blitz over two days during which there were three violations and 12 warnings issued. The largest infraction was 28 km/hr over the posted speed limit. Drivers in Saskatchewan are required to slow to  60 km/hr in a construction zone or the posted speed limit.

Wilton notes an uptick of dangerous behavior by motorists in their construction zones including excessive speeds, passing in a zone, and failing to follow directions by the traffic control personnel.

Officials point out that a construction zone is a workplace and crews have a right to the same protection as the staff in any office or other workplace. Construction zone measures ensure both staff and the motorists make it home at the end of the day.

Apart from reducing speed to the posted limit and obeying instructions, Wilton Police added that speed reduction limits remain in effect in construction zones, whether or not there are workers present, as hazards may still exist.

Fines within a construction zone are triple for infractions.
