Local SPCA inks fundraiser campaign for our furry friends

It’s time to get your ink on for a good cause.

The Lloydminster & District SPCA has teamed up with four tattoo artists Marc of Marc’d Up Tattoos, Kayla & Seth as well as local makeup artist Chantel Joy with Infinity – Advanced Aesthetics & Training to get all your ink on for our furry friends this Saturday.

Community Outreach Manager Becca Lawrence says with a few days to go to Saturday’s fundraiser, they are well subscribed.

“We posted it last week and like even today we have been filling up a cancellation list. So all of our spots here are full. There are going to be [spots open] at the Tattoo shop. We made sure we had a cancellation list just in case anything went a little quicker than planned and we could fit a few more people in.”

That news is good as they look towards Saturday’s fundraiser that will include a BBQ. However, Lawrence says their non-profit has continued to battle with fundraising efforts throughout the pandemic months.

“We are right up there with all the other non-profits. We are having a tough time with fundraising, but with everything opening up, we are really looking forward to all the events that we can try and have this summer. Just right now, it’s been slow and donations have been down, but we are hoping with COVID and all the restrictions lifting, that can change real soon.”

Lawrence says their dog numbers are low, but their cat numbers are up driven by the purring of some extra kittens and they are hoping a few foster homes can come on and save the day.

The fundraiser is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday June 26. It will be $100 per tattoo and appointments can be booked over the phone by calling the SPCA at 780-875-2809.

Proceeds will be going towards veterinary procedures like spay and neutering, vaccines, medication, emergency care as well as food.
