Marc’d Up Tattoos inks up $11,040 for local SPCA

A local tattoo shop’s fundraiser has inked up $11,040 in support of the Lloydminster and District SCPA.

Three artists from Marc’d Up Tattoos, Marc, Kayla, Seth along with Chantel of Infinity – Advanced Aesthetics & Training were dishing out tattoos to supporters all day on Saturday, June 26th. By the end of the event, 138 tattoos were given out by the four artists. During the day, a barbecue was also held, raising $752.70.

SPCA Community Outreach Manager Becca Lawrence says other shelters have had success with campaigns like this, the fundraiser exceeded expectations.

“With COVID, everything finally opening back up and a little bit more slack, we expected it to be good, but $11,000 was definitely a little bit more than we were expecting, for sure.”

From here, the funds will be put into many general needs. These can range from veterinary procedures like spay and neutering, vaccines, medication or emergency care to items like food, toys and blankets for the animals.

The large majority of the appointments were booked up all day, and any that weren’t were filled by walk-ins. Lawrence says because of the response to the event, they’ll be looking to do another soon.

“Chatting with Marc over at Marc’d Up Tattoos, we thought maybe it could be an annual event. Obviously, we’ll need to see where we’re at in a year for now, but we’ve would love to do that. Tattoos aren’t really out of the ordinary anymore, everybody has them, and I think it’s going to be something that is going to continue to be popular. People love supporting the SPCA, and this is a fun, different way to do it.”

In the meantime, the SPCA is always welcoming donations. People can get in touch with SPCA at (780) 875-2809 if they’d like to drop off a donation.
