New Community 50/50 to pinch hit for four non-profits

The Lloydminster Community 50/50 is up and running and four local non-profits will be cashing in.

As residents get a shot at some extra cash, the new 50/50 lottery will offer an extra monthly money flow for Border City Connects, Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, The Olive Tree and Lloydminster Rescue Squad.

Deputy Chief Ryan Leblanc with the Lloydminster Rescue Squad says they are seeing increased demand for their services at this time.

“With lots of people staying at home and at the lakes, it has increased our call volumes. So with that comes a little bit more expense. It’s going to be nice just to keep us on the road and offer some cash flow for us that we can utilize to assist the community.”

Stephanie Munro with the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation says for each of the four groups, the money raised will be going to the project of greatest need.

“All of these services that each of our organizations offer really are vital resources within our community and obviously government funding alone cannot support us. So we definitely need to have fundraisers such as the 50/50, to help bring to life some of that fundraising dollars that we need, to have some of these projects in place.”

Munro says the Health Foundation will be leaving the money to accumulate in the account to spend on a big ticket item at the end of the year.

The Lloydminster Community 50/50 will run monthly for the next year. On the last day of the month, a winner will be picked and they will get half of the pot. The other half will be shared evenly among the four non-profits.

Munro dishes on the special aspect of the Early Bird Draw.

“For July we have Roswell Homes who is sponsoring our Early Bird prize. So on the 15th of every month there will also be another draw for $1000 cash. Regardless of what the grand pot is sitting at, there will always be the Early Bird each month.”

Residents can get tickets at the Lloydminster Community 50/50 link.
