The annual Open Farm Days in Alberta will be on August 14-15.
Chatsworth Farm in the Vermilion area is on board and ready to take bookings as people get out and about for the Summer.
The free tours of the farm will feature mostly animals including beef cattle, sheep and lambs, chickens, geese, ducks, and turkeys, as well as farm kittens and the family’s livestock guardian dog.
Charlotte Wasylik is looking forward to welcome visitors to the family operation for their second stint at Alberta Open Farm Days.
“There’s definitely a lot more events happening this Summer, but there’s still not as many as happened in previous years. We still want to give local community members the opportunity to come out and have a good day, just north of town [Vermilion], and also people who are from further away, to give them another chance to explore agriculture in the province.”
The Chatsworth Family Farm dates back to 1994 when it was started by her parents. Last year they kept the groups small due to the pandemic. This year they will have the opportunity to expand.
“We have increased our capacity this year. We do have the opportunity to have more visitors. We are doing 50 spots per hour. So when visitors book in to visit the farm, they have registration times between 11 am and 4 pm, and they are every hour on the hour.”
Wasylik says they have an added treat as they are having signature donuts being prepped for the event. They also have a few collaborators on board.
“We have partnered with the County of Vermilion River, so they are working on getting some different displays with some our farm’s different partners including Ducks Unlimited, because we work together with them through the year to keep our farm running smoothly.”
Registration is required so they can plan for how many people are coming.
