Lloydminster Firefighters head north to battle Saskatchewan wildfires

Six Lloydminster firefighters are headed north to battle blazes in the Meadow Lake and Buffalo Narrows areas.

The firefighters were requested for the area through a Government of Saskatchewan mutual aid program. The team left Lloydminster on Friday morning and their deployment will last seven days, with the possibility of an extension.

“The deployment of personnel and equipment does not reduce or impact the Lloydminster Fire Services’ ability to respond to incidents in our community. We’ll continue to provide the high standard of emergency response the community expects,” says Leigh Sawicki, Fire Chief, Lloydminster Fire Services.

A pumper truck and the department’s new wildland unit are also headed up to fight the fires.

To report a wildfire or irresponsible behaviour that could start a wildfire in Saskatchewan, people can call 1-800-667-9660, 911 or the nearest Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency forest Protection office when it is safe to do so.

The City says information from the public is crucial to the effectiveness of wildfire response efforts.
