Traffic stop near Maidstone results in drug bust and arrests

Three people are to appear in Lloydminster Provincial court following a traffic stop on Highway 16 near Maidstone.

On Wednesday, August 4th around 4:45 p.m., an officer with Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit stopped an eastbound vehicle, for a driver’s license check.

Two men were in the vehicle and the driver was unable to provide a driver’s license. During the traffic stop, a woman drove up in a second vehicle and provided the driver a license.

The officer suspected that the the occupants of the vehicles may be in possession of drugs. A search was conducted and the following items were found:

  • 36 grams of suspected crack cocaine
  • 2 pounds of suspected illegal dried cannabis
  • A taser
  • About $3,000 in Canadian currency
  • A functioning digital scale
  • Five cellular phones
  • A vacuum sealer with several unused vacuum-sealed bags.

Identity documents were found which matched the description of the male driver. It was learned that the driver’s license the man originally provided did not belong to him.

Following the investigation, the trio was arrested and charged.

Liban ABDI MOHAMED (DOB: 1993-02-15) of Lloydminster, Alberta is charged in each instance with one count of suspected Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distributing It, Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5000, Obstruction of a Peace Officer, Identity Fraud and Possession of Government Documents.

Garang Bol ALAM (DOB: 1991-01-04) of Lloydminster, Alberta is charged with one count each of suspected Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distributing It and Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5000.

Shyann Adelyne Gladys NICHOLS (DOB: 2002-09-21) of Lloydminster, Alberta is charged with one count each of suspected Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distributing It, Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5000, Obstruct a Peace Officer (Aid and Abet), Identity Fraud (Aid and Abet), Possession of Government Documents (Aid and Abet), Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Carry a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Prohibited Device for a Dangerous Purpose.

Their first court appearances are slated for Lloydminster Provincial Court on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
