Lloydminster Bobcats skate off in the AJHL Showcase in Brooks

The AJHL Showcase makes a return with 16 games over four days this weekend at the Centennial Regional Arena in Brooks.

The Lloydminster Bobcats will be in action in two games, as the league shows off its talent to scouts who will be making the trip from south of the border.

GM and Head Coach Nigel Dube is excited to have the showcase back and notes that these are regular season games for his team.

“We play Thursday-Friday. We will take on Calgary and Olds. It’s considered a home game for us, but it’s a home game at the Showpiece. It’s a big weekend for us as we continue to move forward here, just the opportunity for our team to grow and for our players to showcase themselves in front of several schools.”

The Bobcats play the Calgary Canucks on Thursday, and then Friday Oct 1st they drop the puck with the Olds Grizzlys. Both games are at 4:30 p.m.

Dube notes with the AJHL Showcase coming back after last season was abandoned, teams will want to impress especially with the added foreign visitors looking at the talent on the ice, with the possibility of snagging some talent from Lloydminster.

“That’s what we are looking for. There’s usually a ton of schools coming up from the States and with the border now allowing them to, I think it will be the first time they will be back up in over a year. So it should be great for our athletes.”

Following this weekend, the Lloydminster Bobcats will be back home at the Civic Centre next Wednesday October 6th to host the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
