As of Tuesday October 5th a community safety order has been placed on a house at 5729 50 Street, Lloydminster and Alberta Sheriffs have erected a fence to prevent anyone from accessing the property until December 16th.
A release on the provincial government website states the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit gained a court order against the owner to shutter the property, this includes boarding the windows and changing the locks.
The SCAN investigation came in the wake of several complaints from the community which houses parks, playgrounds and a nearby senior’s residence.
Investigators are confirming alleged drug activity at the property and say they have evidence from the RCMP who have responded to almost 100 incidents at the home since 2020. The complaints included used needles around the neighbourhood, witnessing assaults spilling into the street and constant traffic to and from the residence.
SCAN indicated their first measure was to send a warning letter to the owner who does not reside at the property. Then as the suspected drug activity continued, they obtained a court order from Queen’s Bench on September 20th.
The SCAN program started dates back to 2008 and the strategy aims to stem criminal activity by working with property owners.
