Lloydminster Stockade Roundup to continue the excellence November 2-6

The 43rd annual Lloydminster Stockade Roundup rolls out next week November 2-6 at the Lloydminster Exhibition with numerous cattle shows building up to the Cattleman of the Year Award and Supreme Show next Friday November 5th.

The event features several purebred, jackpot, and junior shows, as well as the Princess of the Prairies, a NCAA inspired bred heifer bracket style show and the ever-exciting Stockade Lady, King of the Ring and Prospect Steer & Heifer Show. The Homecoming 2021 Speckle Park Sale will also take place during the week.

Shelly Ann Dodgson, Agriculture Manager says cattle and exhibitors will be coming in from noon next Monday and they are jam-packed from Tuesday to Saturday with cattle shows.

“So we start off with our Princess of the Prairies bred heifer showdown, 5 o’clock Tuesday. Wednesday we have Herefords, Speckle Park and Limousines showing, as well as a Speckle Park sale and then our Stockade Lady jackpot show. Thursday is Charolais and Simmentals as well as the Junior show and our King of the Ring jackpot.”

The planning team notes that Stockade Roundup is a great opportunity for livestock producers and breeders to make valuable business contacts and to showcase their beef genetics.

Dodgson highlights the penultimate day which includes a couple tributes.

“Friday is Angus day. So we have our black and red Angus showing. We have our Cattleman of the Year Award ceremony at noon and  a tribute to one of our past board members, Bernie Payne. And our big Supreme Show and social starting at 5:30. And Saturday is the Saskatchewan Junior Angus and our Prospect Steer and Heifer show.”

Officials recognize that the junior shows allow youth the chance to learn the skills for showing livestock in a competitive arena.

Dodgson reminds everyone that they will be following SHA COVID protocols for events which require proof of vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours for admission. Masks need to be worn while inside the building, but can be removed while outside on the grounds.

The commercial heifer draw is on next Friday November 5th and patrons can get tickets for a chance to win 50 bred heifers or $100,000.
