Civic minded students shovel sidewalks along 52 Ave

City crews weren’t the only ones getting snow shoveled up on Monday. St. Mary’s Elementary seventh graders led a brisk charge in the early afternoon along 52 Avenue.

A school official said they started at a seniors’ residence and then spurred with enthusiasm, the youngsters extended their civic mindedness as they shoveled the sidewalks and a few driveways down to the walkway that leads to the school’s football field.

Residents who were inside either working from home or relaxing during Monday’s winter storm indicated their pleasant surprise as the fun, youthful chatter filled the sidewalk with snow plowing exuberance.

Even though Environment Canada is forecasting at least 2 cm of snow and there was nearly 5 cm by 5 p.m., residents were impressed by the students’ volunteerism as they gave back to the community.
