SLGA website breach spurs liquor shortage

Current and former SLGA employees are being notified to monitor their personal and financial data following a cyber breach on December 25th last year.

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority says their investigation has revealed a risk that some personal information of employees may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party as a result of the cyber incursion. They say their investigation has not turned up evidence that this personal information has been used in any way. However, their action is out of an abundance of caution.

SLGA is notifying employees by mail to provide credit monitoring to these individuals. They note they are not aware of any impact to client information and will continue to provide updates.

While the SLGA’s Distribution Centre has resumed full operations, officials say they are still working to bring other systems online including their website.

SLGA spokesperson David Morris indicated with the downed website, they had to run a manual system for retailers from their distribution centre in Regina. With clients unable to order online, there has been a shortage of liquor across Saskatchewan. Morris, in confirming the cyber attack has triggered a liquor shortage, noted as well that it limited the availability of some of their top sellers.
