Lloydminster City Council has approved $75,400 in funding from the Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant to be shared to various Border City non-profits.
In making the announcement, Mayor Gerald Aalbers notes that the Community Services Advisory Committee is making another call for applications, since $6,014 in funding is still available from what was budgeted.
“One member of council indicated they didn’t see much from the cultural side of the city. I think it’s a great opportunity for groups in the city, if you hadn’t thought about it, here’s an opportunity to apply for some funds to maybe make something happen for Canada Day, or something else. Or you know, a new music festival or something out of the amphitheatre at Bud Miller Park.”
This second call for funding assistance will close February 18th.
The beneficiaries are:
- $9,900 to the Friends of the Lloydminster Regional Archives for Saving and Sharing the Midwest’s Televised History.
- $5,000 to the Libbie Young Centre Inc. for the Summer Recreation Program
- $7,500 to the 186 Lloydminster Air Cadets for the 186 Air Cadets
- $6,000 to the Lloydminster Housing Authority for the Senior Exercise Program
- $10,000 to Special Olympics Lloydminster
- $1,500 to the Lloydminster & Area Brain Injury Society for Brain Fit
- $9,000 to the Lloydminster Catholic School Division #89 for Youth Explorers & Free Drop in Family Physical Activity Events
- $10,000 to the Lloydminster Association for Community Living for the Recreation Liaison
- $10,000 to the Lloydminster Interval Home Society for the Lloydminster Community Youth Centre Recreation and Sport Program
- $1,500 to Scouts Canada for the Lloydminster Scouts Outdoor Adventures
- $5,000 to the Lloydminster Area Drug Strategy for Wintergration.
Aalbers pointed to the spectrum of groups to benefit from the funding that will support the various programs that they offer in the community.
“A broad selection of people in our community that will use that money towards excellent causes, and support people that have some excellent values that need some help with fundraising and this will help fill in some of those voids. It will deliver programs that the city can’t deliver, but they’re being delivered with volunteers and groups like that.”
There is $81,414 budgeted for the 2022-2023 Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant. Applications opened October 13th and closed December 1th, 2021. Eleven groups applied for the funding.
